Sleepy Hollow marked the third collaboration between Tim Burton and Johnny Depp. Sleepy Hollow is Tim Burton’s homage to the Hammer horror classics he grew up watching – this can be seen in the beautiful visual look of the film, the clothing, the blood, and the actors. The movie co-stars Hammer legends Christopher Lee and Michael Gough, both of whom later also appeared as voices in Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride with Depp. Johnny Depp’s portrayal of Ichabod Crane however is not typical for a Hammer horror movie, or for any horror movie for that matter. Depp plays his romantic leading man, the hero, like he would be a teenage girl; constantly squealing, jumping to tables, and fainting. It is part of Depp’s brilliance to do all this and still come off with a convincing performance as the romantic lead. Depp is paired with Christina Ricci, and despite the age difference of almost 20 years, they make quite a sweet couple.

Synopsis by PicketyWitch, the world’s biggest Sleepy Hollow fan:
Constable Ichabod Crane is a dedicated forensic detective. A young man haunted by frightening memories of his mother, he rebels against the immoral practices of 1799. The authorities of New York city are angered by his methods, so they send him off to an isolated farming community called Sleepy Hollow on a mission to detect the murderer of decapitated bodies.
Being rational and logical, there he encounters things that cannot be proven by science. He discovers that the murderer is not of flesh and blood, but a headless supernatural warrior. Aided with the help of the beautiful Katrina Van Tassel and the orphaned Young Masbeth, Ichabod is determined to solve the mystery of Sleepy Hollow, despite many obstacles of his own that he has to overcome.
